ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Cyclin

Cyclin is a little friend that helps the cell decide when it's time to divide. You know how sometimes when you're playing with your toys, you know it's time to stop and do something else? That's kind of what cyclin does inside the cell.

But cyclin can't work alone! It needs another friend called CDK to help it. Together, cyclin and CDK make a team that gives the signal for the cell to divide into two new cells.

But just like you need to wait until you finish building your LEGO tower before you can play with it, the cell needs to wait until it's ready to divide. This means it needs to make sure that all the DNA (the instruction manual for the cell) is correctly copied and ready to be split in half. If there are any mistakes, it's like trying to build a tower with the wrong instructions- it just won't work right!

So, cyclin and CDK are patient and wait until everything is just right before they tell the cell to divide. And this is how cyclin helps the cell grow and make new cells, just like how you grow and learn new things!
