ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Dāyabhāga

Hey there! Do you know what inheritance means? Imagine your mommy and daddy form a team and they have a lot of things. When one of them passes away and goes to heaven, the other one gets to keep all the things. But when the other one also goes to heaven, all the things are divided among their children based on who they love the most or who is older. This is called inheritance.

In India, there is a type of inheritance system called dāyabhāga. It means that when a dad dies, his property goes to his eldest son. Then that son becomes the boss of the property and takes care of it until he dies. And then the property goes to his eldest son, and so on. It keeps going like this, from one generation to another. So, basically, it's like playing a game of hot potato, where the property keeps passing on to the eldest son as the generations go by.

Hope that helps, little buddy!
