Dark silicon

Dark silicon is when a computer chip has more transistors than can be used at the same time. A transistor is a tiny piece of technology inside a computer chip that helps it to work. The more transistors you have, the more powerful the chip can be. However, if the transistors are all working at the same time, the chip can overheat and break. So, dark silicon is when the chip has too many transistors to use all at once without overheating. This means that not all of the transistors on the chip will be used at once, so it's like some parts of the chip are in the dark.
