Dark-sky preserve

Okay, so you know how when it gets dark outside and we look up at the sky, we can see stars and planets? Well, some places in the world are making sure that people can see the stars really, really well by creating something called a "dark-sky preserve."

A dark-sky preserve is like a special area where people try really hard to make sure the sky is really dark so we can see all the stars really well. They do this by turning off lights at night and making sure people use special kinds of lights that don't shine up into the sky. They also try to keep the area around the preserve from having too many big cities or buildings with lots of lights so that the sky stays as dark as possible.

When places make a dark-sky preserve, it's usually because they want to encourage people to learn more about space and the stars. It's also important because sometimes, when there are too many lights at night, it can affect animals and plants that live in the area.

So, basically, a dark-sky preserve is like a special place where we can look up at the sky and see all the stars really well because the people who take care of the place work really hard to make sure the sky stays as dark as possible.
