Data preservation

Data preservation means taking good care of information on a computer or other device so it stays safe and usable for a really long time.

Think about your favorite toy that you love to play with. You probably take good care of it so it doesn't get broken or lost. Data preservation is like that, but for information on a computer. It's important to make sure that the information doesn't get lost, damaged, or become hard to use because then we wouldn't be able to find or use it anymore.

To help prevent this from happening, people who want to preserve data take steps to protect it. They often make copies of important files and store them in different places so that they aren't all in one place. They might also use special programs to make sure the files don't get damaged or lose data over time.

Data preservation is important because information can be very valuable. For instance, scientists might use old data to learn about what the climate was like a long time ago. Or, a family might want to keep important pictures and videos to pass down from generation to generation. Data preservation helps make sure that these things are still around and can be used in the future.
