ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Date of Easter

Okay kiddo, so you know how we celebrate Easter every year? It's a special holiday where we remember that Jesus rose from the dead. But did you know that the date of Easter changes every year? That's because it's based on something called the lunar calendar.

You know how we have a calendar with twelve months, right? Well, each month has about 30 or 31 days, except for February which has 28 or 29 days depending on if it's a leap year or not. But the lunar calendar is different - it's based on the cycles of the moon.

You see, the moon takes about 29.5 days to go around the Earth. So a lunar month is a little bit shorter than a normal month on our calendar. And because Easter has to do with the full moon, that's why it changes every year.

Basically, Easter always falls on the first Sunday after the first full moon that happens after the spring equinox. The spring equinox is when day and night are the same length, which happens around March 20th. So Easter can be any Sunday between March 22nd and April 25th, depending on when the first full moon after the equinox happens.

It can be a little tricky, but that's why we have special calendars called "ecclesiastical calendars" that help us figure out the date of Easter each year. And no matter what day it falls on, we always celebrate it the same way - with chocolate bunnies, Easter eggs, and a lot of joy and happiness!
