ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Day trader

Okay, so imagine you have a lemonade stand. You sell lemonade and make money, right? Now imagine you could buy lemons and sugar for cheap, make more lemonade, and sell it for more money, making a bigger profit. Well, being a day trader is kind of like that, but instead of lemonade, they buy and sell stocks (which are like little pieces of a company that you can buy or sell).

A day trader is someone who just buys and sells stocks really quickly – like, in just one day! They try to make money by watching the stock market very closely and making smart decisions about when to buy (when the stocks are cheap) and when to sell (when the stocks are worth more).

It can be a really fun job, but it’s also really hard work! A day trader needs to spend a lot of time reading charts and keeping up with the news about each company they’re investing in. They also need to be okay with taking risks – sometimes they might lose money instead of making it. But if they’re really good at what they do, they might make lots of money and become very successful!
