De-Stalinisation

De-stalinisation was the process of undoing the policies of the Soviet leader Joseph Stalin. After Stalin's death in 1953, his successors began to undo his policies that kept tight control over the Soviet citizens and kept them from spreading any ideas or beliefs that were different than what Stalin wanted. This meant that more freedom of speech and expression were allowed, as well as more religious and personal beliefs. People were also no longer sent to labor camps for political reasons, and the government allowed more control over people's private lives. In general, de-stalinisation was seen as a good thing, because people were allowed more freedom and their rights and freedoms were respected more than before.
