Think of a decade like a book. It has 10 chapters, called years. Each chapter is like a page, and just like the pages in a book, decades have to be read in order. Log scale means that the years in the book have been spread out. Instead of 10 pages (years) being the same distance apart, the first page (year) is a lot further away from the last page (year) than the second page (year) is from the third page (year) and so on. So a decade on a log scale is like a book with pages that get closer together as you read on.
