Decimals are numbers that are bigger than zero, but smaller than one. It is like fractions in that it has a number at the top (the numerator) and a number at the bottom (the denominator), but the denominator has to be 10 or higher. For example, 0.5 is a decimal because it has a numerator of 5 and a denominator of 10, and 0.7 is a decimal because it has a numerator of 7 and a denominator of 10. You can also think of decimals as a way of breaking up a whole number into tenths, hundredths, and so on. For example, if you want to break up 10 into tenths, you can write it as 10.0. If you want to break it up into hundredths, you can write it as 10.00.
