De-communization (sometimes spelled 'decommunization') in Ukraine is a term for the process of removing Soviet-era statues, monuments, and other symbols, as well as removing Communist-era names from streets and towns, that are a reminder of Soviet occupation and rule in Ukraine. It's a way of getting rid of symbols of Communism and replacing them with symbols that represent a more modern and democratic Ukraine. It's like getting rid of all the old stuff from a house and replacing it with new stuff to make a house look new and updated.
