ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Deconfinement

Deconfinement is when we start to go outside and do things that we used to do before. It’s like when we were stuck inside our homes for a long time because there were germs outside that can make us sick. Now that we have learnt how to protect ourselves and the others from these germs, we can go outside again and meet people, go to school, and play with our friends.

People who are in charge of making decisions about how we can go outside again, they decide when it is safe and okay to do so. They look at how many people are getting sick with germs, and how well we’re able to stop them from spreading. When all these things look good, they tell us that we can come out again, and that is called deconfinement.

But, just like we wear a helmet when we ride a bike to protect our head, we still need to follow some rules to keep ourselves and others safe. We may still have to wear masks and keep a distance from people, and wash our hands often. Deconfinement doesn't mean that we should stop being careful, we still have to protect ourselves and others by being safe and responsible.
