Decree of Themistocles

The Decree of Themistocles was like a big rule made by a very important leader in ancient Greece named Themistocles. He wanted to make sure that his city-state, Athens, had a really strong navy to protect them from bad guys who might try to attack them from the sea.

So he made a rule that said every year, Athens had to put a certain amount of money into a special fund to build and maintain a big fleet of ships. They also had to train lots of sailors so they could have people to work on the ships.

This Decree was really important because it helped Athens become one of the most powerful cities in ancient Greece. Their navy was so good that they won a big battle against a much bigger army from another city-state, which helped them become even more famous and powerful.

So in short, the Decree of Themistocles was a big rule that helped Athens build a strong navy and become a strong city-state in ancient Greece.
