Deep hole drilling

Okay, so imagine you have a really long straw and you want to poke a hole through a really thick cake. You can't just use the straw normally because it's not strong enough to push through the whole cake.

Deep hole drilling is kind of like that, but instead of a straw and a cake, we use a special tool called a drill and a really thick piece of metal. The drill is super strong and can push through the metal, but we need to do it very carefully and slowly so we don't break the drill or the metal.

First, we make a little hole in the metal where we want the big hole to be. Then, we put the drill in that little hole and start spinning it really fast. As the drill spins, it uses something called cutting fluid to help it slide through the metal without getting too hot and breaking.

We have to be very careful and make sure the drill doesn't get bent or break, so we stop every so often to check everything is okay. We also have to keep adding more cutting fluid to keep everything cool.

Eventually, after a really long time, the drill makes its way all the way through the metal and we have a big hole! It might take hours or even days to do this, but it's a really important process for making things like engine parts and gun barrels.
