ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Deep web (search)

Well kiddo, you know how when you search for things on the internet, you use search engines like Google, Yahoo, or Bing? These search engines help you find things like pictures, videos, and websites that other people have made available for everyone to see on the internet.

But did you know that there are some things that people don't want everyone to see? This is where the deep web comes in. The deep web is like a secret part of the internet that you need a special key to get into. It's not searchable like the regular internet because the information is hidden behind passwords, encryption, or other protection methods.

To make it simple, let's imagine that the internet is like an iceberg. The part above the water is what we can see and search with regular search engines like Google. However, the deeper part of the iceberg that is below the surface is like the deep web. You can't see it unless you have special tools to explore it.

But why would someone want to keep something hidden on the deep web? Well, sometimes people want to keep their information private, like their bank account details, personal conversations, and medical records. Other times, people use the deep web to do things that are illegal, like buying and selling drugs or weapons.

Remember, kiddo, the deep web can be dangerous, and you should never try to access it without a parent or trusted adult guiding you. But for now, just know that the deep web is like the secret part of the internet where people hide information that they don't want everyone to see.
