Deforestation during the Roman period

Deforestation during the Roman period means that forests were cut down to create space for things like farms and cities. People needed the wood from the trees to help build walls, houses, ships and many other things. The Romans also needed the land to grow crops to feed their growing population. As the population got bigger, they needed more and more land to grow food, which meant they had to cut down the forests. This led to a decrease in the amount of trees and the wildlife that lived in them. Over time, the lack of trees resulted in soil erosion, flooding, and other problems that still affect us today.
