Dehumanisation is when one person or group of people treats another person or group like they are not really human. It means that they are not treating them with kindness and respect, but rather like they are just objects or animals.
Think about when you play with your toys. You might pretend that your toy bear is alive and talk to it like it is real. But you know deep down that it is just a toy and not a real living thing. Now imagine if someone treated you like that. That would make you feel pretty bad, right?
When someone dehumanises another person, they might not even treat them like they have feelings or emotions. They might say mean things to them or not take their ideas seriously. They might even hurt them physically or emotionally.
Dehumanisation often happens when people judge others based on things like their race, gender, religion, or sexual orientation. This is not okay, and it is important to treat everyone with kindness and respect, no matter what they look like or where they come from.
