Demographics of Switzerland

Switzerland is a country in Europe, where lots of different people live. Some of these people are young kids like you, some are grown-ups, and some are very old. The way we groups all these people is called demographics.

One important thing to know about Switzerland is that it has four different regions, each with its own language and culture. There are people who speak German, French, Italian, and Romansh. Because of this, Switzerland is a very diverse place!

Now, let's look at some numbers to help us understand the demographics of Switzerland better. Right now, there are about 8.5 million people who live in Switzerland. That's about 1,000 times more people than are in your school!

Of all these people, about 75% are Swiss citizens, which means they were born in Switzerland or became citizens later. The other 25% are people who moved to Switzerland from other countries.

In Switzerland, there are slightly more women than men. This means that for every 100 women, there are about 95 men. This might not sound like a big difference, but it adds up over the entire population!

When we talk about demographics, we also like to look at how old people are. In Switzerland, the average age is about 43 years old. This means that there are as many people who are younger than 43 as there are people who are older. But, if we look at specific age ranges, we can see that there are slightly more people who are older than 43 than there are people who are younger.

Finally, it's important to note that people in Switzerland like to have children later in life. This means that there are more people who are over the age of 65 than there are children who are under the age of 15. This is something that is different from many other countries.
