Dental braces are metal or plastic pieces that are put on your teeth to help them move into the right position. Braces are usually worn for a few years in order to straighten teeth and to help your bite look better. When you first get braces, your dentist (the person at the dentist office who takes care of teeth) will fit them on your teeth. They fit onto your teeth like a puzzle piece and are held in place with a special glue. The braces are connected to each other with small rubber bands or wires called arch wires. Your dentist will adjust the arch wires to help your teeth move into the right place. As your teeth move, the braces will be tightened and the arch wires will need to be adjusted more often. Braces can help your teeth stay healthy and give you a more beautiful smile.
