ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Departurism

Departurism is a big word that means leaving a place or thing behind. Imagine you're going on a trip with your family, and you're going to stay at your grandma's house. When you have to leave, you might feel a little sad because you're going to miss your grandma and the fun times you had with your family there. That's what departurism is all about - feeling sad about leaving something behind that you liked and enjoyed.

Sometimes, departurism happens when we have to leave a place we really enjoyed, like grandma's house, a theme park, or a friend's house. We may feel sad and miss the good times we had there.

But departurism can also happen in other situations, like when we finish a book, a movie or a video game that we loved. We might feel sad when it's over because we enjoyed it so much and don't want it to end.

So, when you hear the word departurism, remember that it's just a fancy way of saying that we feel sad when we have to leave something behind that we really enjoyed. And that's ok, it's just a part of life.
