Dependent territory

A dependent territory is a place that belongs to another country and is controlled by that country. It is kind of like when a grown-up is in charge and tells the kid what to do — the kid is dependent on the grown-up. Dependent territories don’t have their own laws or governments, so the country that it belongs to takes care of it.
