Deportation of the Meskhetian Turks

So there are some people called Meskhetian Turks who used to live in a place called Meskheti in Georgia. But a long time ago, there was a big fight between Georgia and another country called Russia and many of the Meskhetian Turks had to leave their homes and go somewhere else. Some of them went to other parts of Georgia and some went to other countries nearby.

But then, in the 1940s, another big fight happened - this time it was World War II. And because Georgia was near where the fighting was happening, the Soviet Union (which was the government in charge of Georgia at the time) decided that the Meskhetian Turks could not be trusted and were dangerous. So, they were made to leave Georgia and go to other parts of the Soviet Union like Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan.

Now, the Meskhetian Turks had to leave everything behind- their homes, their land, and even their culture. They had to start over in a new place where they didn't know anyone. It was very hard for them to adjust and many of them faced a lot of discrimination and even violence.

In the 1990s, when the Soviet Union broke up, some of the Meskhetian Turks tried to go back to their homeland in Georgia. Unfortunately, the Georgian government didn't want them to come back because they were worried there would be too many people and it would be hard to take care of everyone. So they were not allowed to come back.

This meant that the Meskhetian Turks had to stay in other countries and were not allowed to go back to the place where they originally came from. This is called deportation- when a group of people are forced to leave their homes and cannot come back. It is very sad and not fair for the people who have to go through it.
