Depression (geology)

Okay kiddo, so you know how the earth has different layers, right? There's the crust, the mantle, and the core, kind of like a big onion! Well, sometimes things happen inside the earth that cause the ground to sink down and create a little dent, or depression, in the earth's crust.

Depressions in the earth's crust can come from a few different things. Sometimes a volcano will erupt and all the melted rock will empty out from under the ground, leaving a dent or depression. Other times, if there's a lot of rain or snow, it can make the ground really heavy and cause it to sink down.

But don't worry, these depressions don't usually cause any big problems for us on the surface. In fact, sometimes they can even create cool things like lakes or valleys that we can explore and enjoy! Just like how onions have layers and sometimes you find a really cool surprise in the middle of it, the earth also has layers with surprise depressions to discover.
