Desiccation

Desiccation is when something gets dried out completely. Imagine you have a bowl of water and you leave it outside in the sun for a very long time. The sun will take all the water away from the bowl and make it completely dry.

This can happen to things that have water in them, like plants or fruits. When there is not enough water around them, they can dry up and become very hard. This is not good for living things because they need water to live.

Sometimes people use desiccation on purpose to preserve things. For example, when you buy some snacks like beef jerky or dried fruits, they have been intentionally dried out so that they can last longer and you can enjoy them later.
