Design for behaviour change

Design for behavior change is about creating products or services that encourage people to make positive changes in their behavior or habits. Now, imagine you want to learn how to brush your teeth properly. You may not know how many times to brush, what types of toothpaste or brush to use, or how long each brush session should last. A product designed for behavior change would give you clear, easy-to-follow guidelines about these aspects.

This design is about encouraging people to start and commit to a new behavior, help them stick to these new habits, and mitigate difficulty or friction points. For example, one way designers can facilitate behavior change is by using persuasive design techniques such as providing triggers, feedback, and social reinforcements. Triggers could be things like notifications, reminders, or incentives that help people remember to do the behavior they are trying to change. Feedback could be data, charts, or community support that provides information and motivation for the person. Social reinforcement may include recognition from others or social pressure that motivates and validates behavior change efforts.

So, design for behavior change aims to create products that simplify and reinforce changes for the user, making it easier for us to implement new positive behaviors and habits.
