ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Design history

Design history is all about looking at different types of designs and how they have changed over time. Just like how your toys might look different than your parents' toys, designs for things like clothing, furniture, and even buildings can also look different as time goes on.

Designers are people who come up with ideas for new things or ways to improve old things. We can learn about the history of design by looking at the work of different designers and seeing how they influenced each other. Sometimes, a designer will come up with a new idea that's so fresh and different that it starts a whole new style or trend in design.

For example, in the 1960s, there was a big movement in design called "Pop Art". This style was all about using bright colors, bold patterns, and images from popular culture (like comic books and advertisements) to create eye-catching designs. We can look at paintings, clothing, and posters from that time to see what Pop Art looks like.

Looking at the history of design can help us understand how different cultures and time periods influenced each other. It also shows us how design continues to change and evolve over time.
