Design life

Hey kiddo! Have you ever heard of "design life"? It's a really important concept when people make things - like toys, buildings, or even roads.

When someone makes something, they need to think about how long it will last before it gets old and doesn't work anymore. That's what "design life" means. It's the amount of time that the thing is designed to work properly.

Think about your favorite toy. Let's say it's a remote control car. The people who made that car had to make sure it would work for a certain amount of time, so they gave it a design life.

That design life could be a certain number of hours of playing with it or it could be how long it will last before the batteries die. The designers have to make sure the toy will work for that whole time, otherwise people might not want to buy it or they'll be unhappy with it.

The same is true for bigger things that people build like houses or bridges. The people who make them have to think about how long they should last before they start to fall apart. They have to use materials that will be strong enough to last for the whole design life of the building.

So design life is really important because it helps people make things that will work for a long time and won't break or stop working too soon.
