Destruction of cultural heritage by the Islamic State
Okay kiddo, you know how we have valuable things like toys or books that we want to keep safe because they mean something to us? Well, countries also have valuable things that are very important to their history and culture, like old buildings, statues, and artifacts. These things are part of their identity and help them remember their past.
Unfortunately, a group called the Islamic State (also called ISIS) is destroying some of these valuable things. They are doing this because they believe that the way people used to live and worship in these old buildings and artifacts is wrong. They also want to get rid of anything that is not Muslim, which means they want to erase other religions' history and culture.
ISIS is using hammers, bulldozers, and even explosives to destroy these valuable things, and it makes a lot of people very sad. It's like if someone came into your house and broke all your toys because they didn't like them. The people who live in these countries are trying to protect their history and culture, but it's hard when a big group is trying to destroy it.
