Detasseling

Detasseling is a job that helps farmers grow crops of a certain type. If a farmer wants to grow crops that have certain characteristics, like size or color, they need to make sure that their plants don't get confused and start producing something else. That's where detasselers come in. Detasselers go into the farmer’s field and pull off the tops of the plants (called tassels). This stops the plants from being able to mix pollen with other plants that are different, so they can’t make anything other than what the farmer wants. By doing this, the farmer can make sure that they get the crop they want.
