Dettmer v. Landon

Okay kiddo, let's talk about a legal case called Dettmer v. Landon. This case is about a lady named Mari Anne Dettmer, who worked for the state government in Michigan.

Mari Anne Dettmer claimed that her boss, a man named William Landon, sexually harassed her while she was working. She said he did things like make inappropriate comments, touch her in a way that made her uncomfortable, and try to force her into sexual acts.

Mari Anne Dettmer didn't like this treatment, so she filed a case against William Landon, claiming that he had violated the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which prohibits sexual harassment in the workplace.

The case went to court, and the court had to decide whether Mari Anne Dettmer's claims were true or not. To do this, they looked at evidence like witness statements, documents, and photos.

The court ultimately found that Mari Anne Dettmer had been telling the truth, and that William Landon did indeed sexually harass her while she was working. As a result, William Landon was ordered to pay Mari Anne Dettmer a large sum of money in damages.

Now, what we can learn from this case is that sexual harassment is not okay, no matter who you are or what your job is. If someone is making you feel uncomfortable at work or in any other situation, it's important to speak up and report it to someone who can help you.
