Devon heraldry

Devon heraldry is all about using pictures and symbols to represent the people, places, and things that are important to the county of Devon in England.

Think about when you draw pictures of your favorite things, like your family or your favorite animal. Devon heraldry is like that but much fancier and more detailed. People in Devon create symbols (called coats of arms) that have lots of meaning behind them.

For example, the coat of arms for Devon has a red background with a golden crest silhouette of a castle. The castle represents the city of Exeter, which is an important city in Devon. The red background represents a famous battle that took place in Devon called the Battle of Tiverton.

Other symbols in Devon heraldry might include animals, like lions or horses, or objects like swords or shields. These symbols would represent something important to Devon, like strength or protection.

Devon heraldry has a long history, and it was used in the past to show which family or clan someone belonged to. Today, people in Devon might still use these symbols as a way to show pride in their county and its history.
