Dichlorodifluoromethane (say: dye-kloro-di-fluoro-methane) is a type of gas that used to be very common in fridges and air conditioners. It's made up of two kinds of atoms called chlorine and fluorine, and one kind of atom called carbon, all smushed together.
Even though it was very useful, people found out that when dichlorodifluoromethane got into the air, it was causing big problems like making a hole in our protective layer around Earth called the ozone layer, and making the planet warmer.
Because of these problems, people stopped using it as much, and now you won't find it as often.
