ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Digital permanence

Digital permanence refers to the idea that when things are saved or stored on a computer, they can stay there forever! Just like how a book on the shelf will always be there if you want to read it again, digital files can be saved and accessed later too.

But, it's important to remember that sometimes things can get lost in the computer world just like they can get lost in the real world. If you accidentally delete a file, it might be gone forever!

This is why it's important to make sure that important things are saved in multiple places just in case something happens to one of them. So, it's like having a backup copy of your favorite book just in case something happens to the original.

Additionally, we should be careful about what we save on our computers because if we put something on the internet or social media, it can be there forever too! So, we need to think carefully before sharing something online because it could be there for a very long time.
