ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Dimension

Imagine you are drawing a picture and you start with a blank piece of paper. This piece of paper has two sides - the top and the bottom - which we call "dimensions."

Now let's say you draw a circle on the paper. This circle has another important dimension called "width" or "diameter." It tells us how big the circle is across the middle.

But what if you want to draw a house on the paper? The house has more dimensions than just its width - it has height (how tall it is) and length (how long it is). So, now we need three dimensions to draw the house properly.

In real life, everything has dimensions. A book on a shelf has height, width, and length. A TV screen has length and width, but it's also "flat," meaning it has "thickness" or "depth."

So, dimensions are all the different measurements or attributes that an object can have, like height, width, length, depth, and more. The more dimensions something has, the more complex it is to describe and measure.
