Diploma Ottonianum

A diploma ottonianum was a type of document that a medieval king or emperor gave to someone they wanted to honor. It was a very special favor or reward and often included a special gift or privileges. It was written on fancy, decorated paper and was signed by the king himself. Sometimes, the recipient of the diploma ottonianum would even get a medal or other special sign of recognition for receiving it.
