ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Direct to disk recording

Direct to disk recording is like taking a video of yourself dancing and instead of saving it on a tape, you save it directly onto your computer. It's kind of like taking a picture with your phone and instantly having it on your camera roll.

When you record something, the information gets saved to a storage device like a hard drive. Direct to disk recording just skips the step of saving it onto a tape first and goes straight to saving it onto a hard drive. This is useful because it saves time and also makes it easier to edit or transfer the recording.

Imagine you have a cassette tape and you want to record a song from the radio. You would first have to put in the tape, hit record, then stop the recording when the song is over. After that, you could play the tape back or transfer it to another device. With direct to disk recording, you can just hit record on your computer and it will save the song onto your hard drive, making it immediately available for playback or editing.

Direct to disk recording is used a lot in professional audio and video production because it allows for higher quality recordings and easier editing. But even regular people can use it to capture important moments and save them directly to their computer.
