ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Discontinuous transmission

Okay kiddo, so let's say you are talking to your friend on the phone and you need to take a break to catch your breath or do something else, but you don't want to hang up the phone. That's what discontinuous transmission means - you take breaks in sending information without cutting off the communication completely.

Just like how you take turns talking on the phone with your friend, a device might take turns sending information so it doesn't use up too much energy or data all at once. It's like the device is pausing or breaking up the information it wants to send so it doesn't overwhelm the receiver.

Discontinuous transmission is often used in wireless communication, like Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, because it helps save battery life and makes the communication more efficient. So just like taking breaks on the phone while still being connected to your friend, discontinuous transmission saves energy and helps devices communicate better without getting tired out.
