ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Discourse ethics

Discourse ethics is a fancy way of saying that we should all talk to each other nicely and try to understand each other's point of view. You know how sometimes when you play with your friends, you might not always agree on what game to play or how to play it? Well, instead of just getting mad or bossing each other around, discourse ethics says that we should all talk to each other and listen to what everyone wants.

When we talk to each other, we should use good manners, like saying please and thank you, and not interrupting when someone is talking. We should try to understand why someone thinks a certain way and ask questions if we don't understand. And most importantly, we should always be honest and tell the truth.

If we all follow these good manners and rules, then we can have really good and fair discussions. It's like playing a game with your friends where everyone gets to make some of the rules and everyone is happy with how the game is played.
