ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Disk buffer

A disk buffer is like a helper for your computer's hard drive. It's a small amount of memory that can help your computer work faster and more efficiently when it's trying to save or read information from the hard drive.

Imagine you're trying to build a really tall LEGO tower, but it's taking you a long time to find the right pieces. You could ask a friend to help you find the pieces you need and put them in a small box next to you. That way, when you need a new piece, you can just grab it from the box instead of having to spend time searching through all the other LEGO pieces.

That's kind of like what a disk buffer does. When your computer needs to save or read information to or from the hard drive, the disk buffer can store a small amount of that information in its memory so that your computer can access it more quickly later on. This can help your computer work faster and more efficiently, like having a little helper to make things easier for you while you're working.
