ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Dispersive mass transfer

Okay, so imagine you have a jar of water with a few drops of food coloring. If you stir the water with a spoon, the color will gradually spread throughout the jar until the whole thing is colored. This is called "dispersion".

Now, let's say you have two jars of water side by side - one with food coloring and one without. If you take a straw and blow bubbles into the jar with the coloring, some of the colored water will stick to the bubbles and be carried over to the jar without the coloring. This is called "mass transfer" - the movement of something from one place to another.

Now, imagine these two processes happening at the same time, with one jar being the source of the colored water and the other jar the destination. The water in the jars will mix and transfer until the concentration of colored water is the same in both jars - this is called "dispersive mass transfer". It's a way that materials can be spread out and moved around in different substances, like in chemistry or biology.
