Disproportionate share hospital

So imagine you and your friend are playing with toys. Your friend has a lot of toys and you only have a few. Your friend is going to share some of their toys with you so that you both can play together fair and square.

In the same way, hospitals also have different amounts of money to take care of patients. Some hospitals have a lot of money to spare and some have very little. But just like your friend, hospitals that have a lot of money, are asked to share some of that money with hospitals that have very little money. This is called the Disproportionate Share Hospital (DSH) program.

The DSH program is like a fund that takes money from wealthier hospitals and gives it to hospitals that need more money to take care of their patients. This helps hospitals take better care of all their patients, no matter how small or big their budgets are.
