Dissenting Gothic

Okay kiddo, have you heard of Gothic architecture before? It's a style of building that was popular a long time ago, with tall pointed arches and lots of decoration.

Now, sometimes people didn't want to follow the same old rules for Gothic architecture. They wanted to try new things and be different. So they made buildings that still had Gothic elements, but weren't quite the same.

These buildings were called "dissenting Gothic." It's like when you have a group of friends and they all want to wear the same outfit, but you want to wear something a little different. You're still part of the group, but you're doing your own thing.

So, dissenting Gothic buildings might have the same tall arches and fancy decoration as other Gothic buildings, but maybe they used different materials, or had different shapes or patterns. And that's what made them special!
