Distillation

Distillation is like separating two different things that are stuck together like sticky mud and clean water. Imagine you have a cup filled with sticky mud and water. You can't drink the water because it's dirty, but you want to get the water out.

So, you put the cup on the stove and heat it up. When you heat up the cup, the water turns into steam and goes up to the top. The steam goes into another cup that is cooler, and it turns back into pure water.

The sticky mud remains in the first cup, and the pure water is in the second cup. That's how you get clean water from the dirty water using distillation.

Scientists and chemists use distillation for other things too. Distillation is a way to separate different liquids or gases that are mixed together, like alcohol from water or oil from saltwater. Companies use distillation to purify water for drinking, make essential oils, and make chemicals for products like medicine or cleaning products.
