District Six was a neighborhood in Cape Town, South Africa where many people of different races and cultures lived together. However, during a time called Apartheid, which was a system of laws that separated people based on their race, the South African government decided that District Six should only be for people who were considered white according to their race.
This meant that the government made all of the people who lived there move away, even if they had lived there for their whole lives. This was not fair because many people had friends and family in the area, and they also had businesses and shops that they had built up over the years.
The government wanted to make the area only for white people and they thought that it was better to separate people based on their race. This made a lot of people sad and angry because they were forced to leave their homes and their community.
Nowadays, there are efforts to try and bring people back to District Six and to make it more inclusive, so that people of all races can live there and enjoy the neighborhood together.
