Doctor of the Church

A doctor of the church is kind of like a really smart grown-up who helps people understand what God wants us to do. Just like you have teachers who teach you things like reading and math, a doctor of the church teaches grown-ups about how to be good followers of God.

But being a doctor of the church isn't easy – these smart grown-ups have to study a lot and be really good at understanding the words in the Bible, which is a book that tells us about God and Jesus. They have to spend a lot of time thinking and praying and writing down what they learn, so that they can share it with others and help them understand God's message.

So when someone is given the title of doctor of the church, it's like they're saying "this person is a really smart and helpful teacher who can help us understand God better." And when people listen to what a doctor of the church has to say, they can learn new things and become even better followers of God themselves.
