Dominical letter

Okay kiddo, do you know how we have 7 days in a week? That's because a long time ago, different civilizations believed in the power of the sun, moon, and planets. They noticed that these things moved in a pattern and decided to create a calendar to keep track of time.

Now, the first day of the week is called Sunday and the last day is Saturday. But what about the other days, like Monday or Thursday? Well, a long time ago, people used to give each day a special letter to show which day it was in the year. This letter was called the "dominical letter."

The dominical letter is a letter assigned to each year in the calendar. It tells us which day of the week the first day of that year fell on. For example, if the first day of the year was on a Sunday, then the dominical letter for that year would be "A." And if the first day of the year was on a Monday, then the dominical letter would be "B."

This was important because back then, people didn't have smartphones or computers to tell them what day it was. They had to remember which day of the week it was using different clues, like the dominical letter. This helped them plan important events and celebrations, like weddings or holidays.

Today, we don't really use dominical letters anymore because we have other ways of keeping track of time. But it's still interesting to learn about how people used to tell time a long time ago!
