Dominion Land Survey

Okay kiddo! Have you ever played a game of connect the dots? Well, imagine if you had to draw a big map of your playground, but you have to connect a lot of dots to do it. That's what the government did a long time ago when they wanted to make a map of all the land in Canada.

They sent out special people called surveyors who had to walk all around Canada with special tools like compasses and measuring sticks. They made a bunch of marks on the ground called "posts" and "stones" to show where the corners of each piece of land were supposed to be. Kind of like when you have to use a ruler when you're coloring in your picture.

This way, everyone knew exactly where their land started and ended, which was really important because people could build their homes and farms without arguing with their neighbors about whose land it was. They called this the Dominion Land Survey, and that's why we have such accurate maps of Canada today!

So, the next time you look at a map of Canada, remember that it was all made possible thanks to hardworking surveyors who walked all around the country, connecting the dots to make sure everyone knew where their land began and ended.
