ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Don't feed the trolls

Imagine you are playing with your favorite toy in a park, and suddenly a big kid comes up to you and starts teasing you. He may say things that hurt your feelings or make you angry. Sometimes, big kids (or grown-ups) do this just to make themselves feel better or to get attention.

Similarly, on the internet, there are people called "trolls" who enjoy making other people angry or upset. They often post negative comments, spread rumors, or say things just to get a reaction from others. It's important to remember that trolls aren't looking for a meaningful conversation; they're just looking to cause trouble.

So, when someone starts behaving like a troll, it's best not to engage with them. Don't respond to any negative comments, don't argue with them, and don't give them any attention. If you do, they'll feel like they are succeeding in their goal of getting a reaction from you, which will only encourage them to continue their behavior.

Instead, just ignore them and move on. Remember, there are many kind and helpful people on the internet who will treat you with respect and give you positive feedback. Don't waste your time and energy on trolls who don't deserve it.
