Donoghue v Stevenson

Donoghue v Stevenson was a legal case in Scotland in 1932. It was about a woman named Mrs. Donoghue who was drinking ginger beer in a cafe with a friend. There was a dead snail in the bottle, and because of this, she got sick. She sued the cafe owner, Mr. Stevenson, and said that he should have been more careful and never sold her the drink.

The judge in the case said that Mr. Stevenson had to pay Mrs. Donoghue for the trouble she went through. He said that there was something called a "duty of care" that said people should be careful when they do things that could hurt other people. He said that Mr. Stevenson should have been more careful when he sold the ginger beer, and since he wasn't, he had to pay Mrs. Donoghue.
