ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Double Star

A double star is like having two stars that look like they are close together in the sky. Imagine you're looking up at the night sky and you see one bright star, but then you notice there's another star that always seems to be nearby. That's a double star!

Double stars are special because they can teach us a lot about how stars are born and how they interact with each other. Some double stars are so close together that they actually orbit around each other, kind of like how the Earth orbits around the Sun. Scientists can study these orbiting double stars to learn more about how gravity works in space.

So next time you look up at the sky and see a bright star with a little star nearby, remember that it might be a double star!
